Welcome to Hero’s Huskies! We are so happy you have taken the time to visit our website and learn a little more about us and these beautiful dogs. We are a small, intimate show and pleasure breeder located outside of Houston toward Austin. We have been owned by these magnificent animals for several years and we are committed to raising healthy, happy, well socialized dogs and puppies bred according to AKC Standard. At Hero's Huskies, you will not find other breeds bred here, nor will you find a puppy mill or overcrowded, unclean or unsanitary conditions. What you will find are several of the most beautiful, spoiled huskies on the planet! We raise these dogs because we have had a love affair with them for many, many years. Each one of ours are members of our family, and are loved and treated as such. They are our family pets and at any given time there are 3-4 of them in the house with us…watching tv, curled up at our feet, playing chase, chewing on a Greenie or snoozing at the foot of the bed. We live on 90 acres, and have very large compounds complete with 6 foot tall fencing and lined with electric wiring for their safety and security. Huskies are pack animals, and they are allowed to live and play here in packs. Each adult male has 3 - 4 carefully matched females and they live as a unit or pack. It is enlightening to watch the order of the pack and how each establish their positions in it. To be successful with this breed requires that you understand them and what motivates them. It is important that you plan to spend alot of time with your husky. This breed is not happy spending its life at your feet while you watch tv. They require and demand interaction. It is what makes a successful relationship with a husky so rewarding. It is why so many people who have had huskies in their lives in the past will return to get another. They are unable to find that interactive relationship with another canine. If you are looking for a best friend, one that will anticipate your every move and seemingly read your thoughts, a partner that will reward you with laughs and smiles and tears of joy, then be prepared to put the time into the relationship as well and you will have a camaraderie to last for years to come! All of our dogs are in exceptional health, and extreme measures are taken to ensure that they receive outstanding veterinarian care, the best nutrition as well as a safe and healthy environment to thrive in. We believe that genetic testing is important, and all dogs over 24 months old have been tested against hip and eye defects. We proudly feed Purina Pro Plan Performance so that our dogs get the protein, fat and fiber content they require for healthy skin and coats, as well as their high energy requirements. We supplement our dogs and puppies diet with a nutritional supplement called Nu-Vet. Please read more about this here: http://www.heroshuskies.com/links4.htm. Our puppies are born inside our custom made Nursery Building in a safe and secure environment built especially for our special moms. This building gives them their own quiet time prior to birth, in a controlled, climatized environment suited especially for them. Until the birth, the lights are dim, soft music plays 24/7 and they are given a very special diet with round the clock observation. When their time comes, we are present, and have on hand everything necessary to ensure a safe and trouble free birth. Every member of our family is involved in their care. They have been socialized to children, cats and other animals by the time they reach 6 weeks old and are each loved, snuggled and cuddled until we can ensure that they have been spoiled sufficiently for their new, carefully selected homes! All of our puppies come complete with:
Pups come in a variety of colors, including whites, grey/white, black/white, piebald, red/whites and golden. Eye color cannot be determined until four weeks of age, and although most of our puppies have blue eyes, the brown eyed, split eye or bi-eye are all acceptable according to the AKC Breed Standard. We believe that the beauty of the husky is in their demeanor and the variety of colors and patterns of their masks and eyes make each one unique. Emphasis should not, therefore, be made on eye color. Eye color is not and cannot be guaranteed.
Hero's Huskies are bred and known for their docility and personalities. Many of our personal dogs have become Canine Good Citizens and Therapy dogs. Our puppies have gone on to CGC, Therapy, sled and show homes, others to approved breeders, and still some have become celebrities in print. We are very active with our dogs, and they gain alot of exposure being in public so much. We enjoy carting and rigging with them (it doesn't snow in this part of Texas!), and we show as time and our schedules permit. Perhaps our most rewarding work is done when we take a pair of our dogs into Children's Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Life Skills facilities for the mentally handicapped. The pleasure people derive from loving on our huskies warms our hearts and fuels the energy and love that these dogs have for these special individuals. A happy husky is a working husky! Siberians are lovers, not guard dogs, and although they may look intimidating, they are, quite simply, just big babies! The Siberian Husky is not the dog for everyone, so before you fall in love with these precious baby blues, be sure to research the breed by checking here, "Before you Buy". Browse through our "Litter Box" for pictures of available puppies, or email us with a description of the puppy you are looking for. Purchasing a puppy from us requires a deposit deducted from the cost of your puppy in order to hold it and may entail a waiting period, but we assure you that they are worth the wait! We believe that you are not just purchasing a dog… you are making a lifetime investment in a side by side companion, a best friend. Come… find YOUR Hero!
Socialization - What Makes a Hero?
You see, our Hero was special like this. He made that relationship between man and dog look easy. You wouldn’t believe the number of times we had people point to him and say… “We want a dog just like that.” Hero was like that because we spent that kind of time with him. He was a part of our hearts and always will be. And we are committed to seeing that each and every puppy that leaves here in his memory has that same advantage… that love and special bond. We do not allow our puppies to go to homes that are not willing to continue the love and care we have started them with. That is our promise to Hero's legacy. Our teenage son, Jacob, is an important part of our unique socialization process... he has a calm, loving manner and loves spending time with the puppies. As seen in this picture, he catches and holds their attention with a look that is shared between two souls. The puppies understand and listen to him and he senses their needs. He is the "puppy whisperer"!
"Wide open Texas spaces for long walks and exercise."
Our huskies are housed in the ONLY kennels endorsed by the American Kennel Club! These top-of-the-line welded steel kennels are the only thing we trust our beloved huskies in for their safety and security. Each kennel has an installed misting system for their comfort in the summer months.
Surrounding the kennel complex is a large high-fenced compound for exercise and added security.
